| | Dear friends and partners of the Peace Palace,
In times of pandemic, one might think that the Peace Palace is a quiet place, a "sleeping beauty", but this is not entirely correct. Although the majority of colleagues is working from home, and while our Library and the Visitors Center are still closed for the public, activities in and around the Palace continue as much as the circumstances permit:
First and foremost: the hearings of the two Courts are still proceeding; of course in strict accordance with all Covid-19 measures. To ensure the preservation of the Palace as a "Temple of Peace" that serves as a Court House and a place that inspires the world, we are currently preparing a conference with international experts on the restoration of the Japanese Room. The Hague Academy is also working hard: following the successful winter courses with a record number of participants, it is now also organising the following summer courses online. In addition, last week, 40 children recorded a musical tribute to the United Nations "Action for Peacekeeping" conference in front of the Palace. And in order to educate children around the world, we have just published a free class presentation package.
Whilst preparing plans for the future, to serve the Courts, to enhance the Library services, and to eventually open up for practitioners, students and the public in a healthy way again, we also reflect on the great accomplishments of the past. For example, the achievements of Hugo Grotius 400 years ago still motivate us to continue promoting "Peace through Law". For this, we need your help and appreciate your kind support.
I wish you good health and a springtime full of hope and engagement!
