Newsletter Peace Palace 02/2021

Dear friends and partners of the Peace Palace,

Andrew Carnegie once wrote that the opening of the Peace Palace in 1913 was one of the happiest days of his life. Of course, the opening of the palace was a truly unique occasion, but nowadays we can begin to imagine how Carnegie must have felt. After nearly 1.5 years of closure, we are able to reopen the Peace Palace.
The courts are scheduling hearings at the palace in late summer and fall, and The Hague Academy hopes to offer its Winter Courses in January again here in The Hague, rather than online. Our Peace Palace Library, supporting all these institutions, and our Visitors Centre, informing and educating people worldwide, have meanwhile been able to reopen again. We're not there yet, but there is light at the end of the tunnel caused by the pandemic.

In addition to supporting the courts, the Carnegie Foundation's mission is to promote peacebuilding activities and facilitate education and dialogue. We aim to pick up our programs in a variety of ways, for example through our new 360-degree virtual tour. All of these activities need support and we are very grateful for the contribution of our friends and the cooperation with our partners.

I wish you good health and an inspiring summer!

Virtual 360° tour of the Peace Palace

We want the Peace Palace to be accessible to all people, no matter where they are or what background they may have. Its interior is a good vehicle to tell the story of the palace visually. Therefore, the palace can now be visited 24/7 and in a 360-degree scope.

Conference Japanese Room

The Japanese Room, where many activities of the PCA take place, was named after nine precious silk tapestries that adorn the walls of the room donated by the Japanese government. The Carnegie Foundation has recently organized a conference on the restoration and preservation of this cultural heritage.
